Voter ID required for elections
It is now a requirement to take photo ID with you when voting. So, in the local elections this May you will need to take photo ID or you won’t be allowed to vote.
You can find the forms of ID that are acceptable on the Electoral Commission website.
If you register for postal voting, you won’t need photo ID.
If you are an LGBT+ person and worry you won’t be able to vote due to lack of photo ID, please message us and we will support you. We know that LGBT+ people, ethnic minorities and working class people will be disproportionately affected by this new rule. We’ll do all we can to help and call on Warwick District Council, Rugby Borough Council, Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council to engage with us and LGBT+ communities who are going to struggle with this new requirement and be at risk of disenfranchisement.
We are putting on a webinar soon with North Warwickshire Borough Council that will provide information on how to get the right photo ID to be able to vote. We’ll share the details of that soon.
